Riot Union Playlists

Playlists for your queer and feminist music needs

Ey up, everyone! I got a request to make a playlist with some of my favourite feminists songs and songs by LGBTQ* artists and after weeks of putting them together I can finally present to you: the Riot Union playlists!

Graphic with the text "Riot Union playlists" and photographs of the featured artists: Joan Jett, Beyonce, Salt n Pepa, Tegan and Sara, Shamir, Janelle Monae and Laura Jane Grace

There are different playlists for different sounds and moods. The names are temporary until I find better ones, so if you have a great suggestion @ me on twitter.

They are all on Spotify to let me endlessly add more songs whenever I find new ones. As I find more songs, more playlists will emerge, so be sure to follow RiotUnion on Spotify to always know when more have been added.

Also: If you have a Spotify account, please consider adding kudos to this appeal to Spotify to include a genderneutral option for sign-up

Listen to these playlists on Spotify by visiting the Riot Union profile.

All these songs have feminist or LGBTQ* themes or are performed by an LGBTQ* artist.

To clarify which is which and to encourage you to check out their other work, the LGBTQ* artists featured are:

  • A Great Big World
  • Against Me!
  • Beatrice Eli
  • Eliot Sumner

Disclaimer: An artist being featured in a playlist does not equal endorsement. Sadly it is (near) impossible to find "unproblematic" artists, therefore only artists doing harmful things with the knowledge that it is harmful (or willfully ignoring those telling them it is harmful) and artists refusing to apologize for their behaviour will be excluded.

If any of the artists featured should not be included for harmful behaviour that I may be unaware of, please let me know.

Disclaimer no 2: These songs are all songs I enjoy, these playlists are biased towards my music taste and will not include all feminist or LGBTQ* songs out there.

Disclaimer no 3: I do not own any of the photographs of the artists used for this post and will remove any immediately upon request. They are used for non-profit use only.
